Session 3 - eLearning Trends in High Education

Session 3: eLearning Trends in Higher Education

Session 3 reflects on eLearning application trend and its impact in High Education. According to personal observation, majority of the students at USP use tablets and smart phones to access their teaching and learning resources making the idea of Bring Your Own Device a reality. We live in a world where having a smart phone is a trend and the world are at your fingertips and it has been evolving rapidly. I was inspired in this session upon learning the power of technology in education. Speaking of BYOD, it really elevates the interest of students in learning. It personalized learning, it adapts content to meet individual students need, learning paces and styles. When students bring their own device in class such as lecture and tutorial, it eases facilitation and encourages more interactive and innovative activities. For instance, utilizing Socrative learning application during class, distributing them in groups and give them time to work online and we facilitate.

Moving on, AR and VR (Virtual and Augmented Reality) brings a big transformation in experiencing real life learning. Integrating VR allows students to virtually experience hands on experience and practical skills training. Having to explore the usage and advantages of VR has really impacted my interest of teaching virtually in offering my online learners authentic learning that my face-to-face students experience on physical setting.

Therefore, it is important that as educators we are to be well equipped with the functionality of technologies so that we operate these learning applications confidently. Digital awareness should be the first phase that we should tap into with this trend of eLearning application so that we are able to deliver what we should and students to do what they are expected to do.
